John Hulme

I am a teacher and musician with over thirty years experience teaching and performing with a focus on contemporary, popular and jazz music, teaching all levels, from beginners to returners, children to seniors. I can tailor my teaching to suit your requirement as I have  experience teaching in various educational establishments and playing with professional and semi-professional musicians in public and in the studio.

How I teach:

Students don’t necessarily need to read music, in fact some of my teaching techniques positively encourage you use your ears more - jazz essentially being an aural music; though if you want to learn to read music, then that is something I can also teach you.

From the outset we will plan and set goals together, they can be as simple or as involved as you would like them to be. My aim is always to make learning fun and enjoyable. Stimulating your enjoyment, mental agility and dexterity. The trumpet is a great way to learn new skills, resurrect old skills or just improve your playing, besides introducing you to other areas of music.

I also teach, flugelhorn, cornet and other brass instruments, so check me out for a full list and don’t wait until your dreams are out of reach. Call me today for a chat.

Music Styles:

I have a particular interest in jazz, contemporary and popular music. The top musicians in the field are reviewed and discussed as a way to aid learning. Together we can examine the greats and apply good practice to our learning and performing.
